December crew updates...

Ahoy crew,
Been a while...fatherhood is lots of fun!
Anyway, below are the details of the KL exchange trip for the 6 ventures;

1. Day 1: Depart for Malaysia Rainforest Trekking (after lunch)

2. Day 2: Unit Visit (Indoor and Outdoor activities)

3. Day 3: Campfire Night (Cultural Exchange, campfire)

4. Day 4: Experience Malaysia (Sightseeing, Batu Caves)

5. Day 5: Depart for Singapore (after visit to scout HQ)

For me, Otter & Yu Heng, we join them on Monday & Thursday nights & Friday. The other time we'll be in Genting Highlands. Please bring Full Uniform! This is our programme;

(Optional) Send crew off at Changi Airport @ 0530hrs. Then we leave for our (about 6hours) road trip to KL.
Day 1: Meet contingent at hostel after we book into our 6 Star hotel (www.hotelmaya.com.my/default.aspx)
Day 2: We say temporary good byes to our crew as we head to Genting Highlands First World Hotel. Then fun, laughter & cool temperatures.
Day 3: Genting fun. But at night we'll head down to KL to the hosting Scout unit school for campfire, Yay!
Day 4: We try to catch our remaining crew before they leave for KL shopping OR we just meet them halfway (if we wake up late in Genting!). We check into Hotel Maya again.
Day 5: We'll follow the contingent bus to Malaysia Scout HQ & shop. MUST buy scout souvenirs!!! Then when they leave for home, we'll take our slow journey back to SG. Another 6 hours :0 (I don't know if my grown up, active son can take it!!!!!)

Next, Venture camp is postponed to 8th to 10th January 2010, mainly due to inavailability of Siglap teachers (at least 1 is required to be present at any activity). It is compulsory for all Sec 4 scouts (Bernard & gang) & all '09 crew ventures to attend.

Next year's VLC will be special as there was none this year. Special because I'll be sending 2 crews instead of the usual 1 crew, & the 2010 VLC will be something extraordinary (unlike past years). I'll be looking forward to it, so should you. Venture Leadership Course is an important step in your venturing years.

Been a while eh...currently we have 126 H1N1 cases already!!!

We have the following activities this month;

June Training camp whereby some of you ventures had passed the Monkey bridge pioneering (Congrats).
Sent Wombat to NS!!!
Meridien Cub scout Flag ceremony & campfire (fun as always!!!)
Sent Marlin to NS & welcome Kind Heron back after safely completing his NS!!!!
"Star of the Sea" student care centre day outing at Pasir Ris Park (combined with troop & Rovers; fun too!)
Poi Ching cubs camp & Pasir Ris Park (cancelled due to the rising numbers of infection in H1N1)
Hougang Rangers Campfire on 27th June. (any takers?) CANCELLED, not going
In July 4th, we'll have another Poi Ching & Thai scouts games day in Poi Ching school. (hope its ON & not cancelled due to H1N1.) CANCELLED
"Star of the Sea" student care centre dinner treat at Ehub Sakura on 4th July.

Hi crew,
A quick one here in the wee hours of the morning...There are 2 courses which you have to go (VLC is important, the other optional);

Tampines Dist Venture Leadership Course (sooo happy I'm not CD!) = 13th to 14th June (Sat & Sun, its a 2 day 1 night lecture camp, sleeping in bunk beds dormitory). I'm sending all '09 crew SO mark these dates. All have to go so you can pass a section of your Venture Scout Standard.
First Aid Course, from Red Cross Association = from the 18th to 20th of June 2009 (Thurs to Sat; ask Marlin for timing); I want names for this course by 6th May. Please inform Gibbon or Marlin.

firstly, i will like to congratulate all Ventures for the hard work put in last year, in result, we had achieve FCS BRONZE AWARD !! YA YA

Good Job done by the Crew and also to our VSL Azhari !!!

i will also like to update you guys on the Scout unit, the scout unit had achieve FCS GOLD AWARD for year 2008 !!! well done too !!

Secondly, how is the 09venture doing for your VSS ? if you guys need help in any of it please do contact me or Azhari, in the mean time we will help you guys to look out for course and do reply us when there is one ok ?

Here's a quick change of plan. Jackal suggested kayaking, the Rovers ask for Venture vs Rover soccer at Pasir Ris Park. The venue & time is still the same, at the Pasir Ris Sea Sports club, BUT the activity will be either soccer, badminton or Kayaking OR we can do all!!!

Activity: White Stag Venture & Rover combined meeting
Attire: Venture shirt & a shirt for the activities (Siglap preferably)

Yes! The White Stag -Cub Scout Project 2009 has definitely provided my unit with much help!

The 46 cubs who went for the jobweek have benefitted much from the ventures and rovers' guidance.

The White Stag Ventures and Rovers were very patient. They were clear of their roles and facilitated the cubs' learning very smoothly. I was moving around the neighbourhood with my other leaders to capture pictures and videos of the jobweek activities. I am impressed by how the ventures and rovers talked and guided the little cubs. I must say this is the true scouting spirit.

At the end of the project, which ended at 4pm, the ventures actually stayed back to helped out with our UG Campfire. The Assist Venture Scout Leader, Wombat, together with the ventures have helped to build up the ambience for the campfire.

On behalf of my unit, I thank you sincerely for providing us with so much help in the admirable scouting spirit! Cheers!

Jobweek Camp

please be reminded that we will be helping out the cub scout on the 14th of feb morning and i will need brendan to comfirm the number of venture coming for the camp and sms me the number of people by 11th of feb 2359hrs.

please do your part by telling brendan if you are coming for the camp.

as for jobweek. all year 1 venture are require to do jobweek so that we can earn more fund for ourself !!! the camp will start from, 13th of feb (friday) till 16th of feb(monday), please bring money for your lunch as u will be out for jobweek.

on the 13th i will also do a last briefing for all the venture helping out in the cub jobweek program. you are to fall in outside the den at 1500hrs.

On the 6th and 7th of march there will be a Pow Wow and D-Camp and all venture are suppose to come down for the camp to help out in the pow wow and also there will be program for all the venture.

Dear Ventures,

This Sat, we will be having our kayaking at Pasir Ris Park and please be there on time to ensure we have enough time to kayak. On Sat itself, I will also be discussing with you guys about the jobweek colaboration with cub scout unit and we will have to send out the email soon to allow the cub scout unit to react.

The '07 crew has become White Stags 1st Rover crew. I've invited them to the kayaking. in exchnage with RSL Humming Bee, the Rovers & us have to be in full uniform to lower flag together with the scouts. This is to show / introduce the new White Stag Troop that we have.

So please bring your Full Uniforms!

Time : 9am sharp, to end by 11am & to report to Siglap by Noon to lower flag

Hi all,

East Spring Oneida had invited us to join them on their Sundays Dragon Boat training, therefore if you are interested to join, please inform Azhari or Wombat by this Saturday's meeting (7 Feb 2009). Below are the details.

Start of Feb, every sunday.

$60 + $30= $90/ 2hr

$90 / 12people = $7.50 per pax (This cost is per person, before Azhari and Wombat take the helm course)

$30 / 12people = $2.50 per pax (This cost is per person, after Azhari and Wombat take the helm course)

- $60 is for instructor fee, therefore if Azhari and Wombat take the helm course, we do not need to pay any instructor fee.

- 1 boat can seat 12 people

- Its not a 'as and when you like it' you attend kind of thing, so please attend regularly!

Time: 1000 hours to 1200 hours

Date: Every Sunday

*Its only exclusive to ventures, rovers and leaders!

Be involve in the planning of this course and go on a visit to the Singapore Discovery Centre for the research. You'll be in the committee for this course for scouts in the future. Venture scouts will get to pass their Citizenship part in the VSS badge scheme. There'll be no cost to it.

Please report to VSL Nicholas aka Grumbling Squirrel from Cuon scouts on that day for a meeting. Venture scouts from Oneida and Cuon will be involved.

A game of Futsal Soccer at the Cage?

There soccer this Friday (31st October 08) with the leaders.

Details are.
Time: 1900 to 2100 hours
Venue: East Coast Cage (near MacDonald's)

Change of venue due to fully booked Futsal field at Safra Tampines.
S$180 for 2 hours!!! Please bring some friends, the more the better we split the price. We need at least 15 players; 5 aside, meaning 3 teams should suffice. If there's 2 teams, it will be tiring & we need a break which will cost time & MONEY...heh

For the upcoming November and December holidays, our Venture Scout Unit will be launching a Unit initiative – Total Defence (Gold & Silver) Badge Programme and Civics Proficiency Badge (Scouts only), for our Scout and Venture Scout Units.

Hi crew,
I did a recce of the 2 ferry points last Tuesday and here's the updates.

West Coast Pier

West Coast Pier for Pulau Hantu
Nearest MRT is Clementi; located at the West Coast Park below NUS, beside S'pore Poly Marina. Secluded even if you take a bus, you have to walk quite a distance in to the ferry area.
Price is S$150 for 12pax per trip!

Marina South Pier

Marina Pier for Sisters' Island
Nearest MRT is Marina South; we have to use the other exit, on the Casino side of the AYE as the old exit towards the bus stop is gone due to construction. Its covered up. So we have to use the other exit out of the underground station to walk a distance to take the bus to Marina Pier.
Price is now hiked up to S$120 (from S$80) for 12pax per trip! If we want to do Island hopping to Kusu & St John's Island then to Sisters' Island, it would be S$150 for each boat of 12pax.
I suggest this & post-pone Pulau Hantu yet again!

Archery

Mr Raymond Tan, my Boys' Brigade friend, who's kind enough to conduct his Archery for us for free would not be available on November (remember its free for us so that period is where he earns a lot so we can't book him).
He'll be coming this Saturday to conduct the interesting Archery course combined with lifeskills of aiming your goals in life. O levels crew is invited to attend (He & I have conducted the course for EM3 PSLE pupils to focus before their PSLE exams).
It would be good to release some tension, but I would be very strict with your safety.
Its a 9am to 1pm course.

See you this Saturday at 9am SHARP (full U please), I'll update after the leaders' council meeting on Thursday night.

Currently Bear & Bat is asking us to draw up a FDC proposal for the sec 2s and sec 3s, at the same time, attending these FDC lessons to train them, we can also take our FDI... The proposal have to be send to Bear & Bat by tuesday 8 July 08, so i appreciate that if any ventures want to take up this course, please inform me by monday 7 July 08, then we will be able to meet on tuesday 8 July 08 to do the proposal together. For those, taking 'N/ 'O' levels, its really not compulsory for you to go, and we really don't encourage you to go, but if you really want to go, then please allocate your time well...

Hey all,

Please think about this event for a moment...when you were a scout, some of your collected money goes to ventures' activities (mainly ferry fair for initiation $$$)...its not fair but for the troop.

Now that our crew is bigger, isn't it better if each one of us at least sell a minimum of 1 booklet (which is S$10) to do our part. I mean it doesn't take much time to sell a booklet. There are 15 of you, we should at least make S$150. Plus mine, it may reach to S$300 or more as I 've already sold 13 booklets (AND its not my own money okAY). I have not started to buy yet.

It's also for the FCS which we had SILVER for last year. Your combined efforts will enable you to wear another badge for decoration! More sense of achievements, who doesn't want?

Next, can I have your support if the Archery be placed on 26th July (Sat)? Is it close to exams? It can be directed as an activity trigger for your exams as I've done it with the instructor on P6 PSLE pupils. If not, would you prefer after exams? If ok, then it will be held on the Saturday at Siglap.

What say you all?

How to go sailing? I asked, its S$4K for 20 pax for just a day lesson on a yacht where you'll learn the controls...S$8K for 2 days 1 night on the yacht for 20 pax...how??? ON?

Note: I (RF) understand that some of you aren't coming for venturing due to O & N levels. But I think this event like campfires are minimal. The only effort needed is to wear the uniform & show your support for the crew / troop.

I believe the crew would be able to be smart & play your part as good sons, students to your teachers & also able to score points for your FCS in any little part that you can contribute.

Remember, parents & studies always first...then crew (NOT others :))

But the Tampines North Cub Scout camp will clash with the june training camp on the 30 May 08, so i am thinking that some ventures will stay in school to help out while the rest go to Tampines North, is that okay? Btw, please take note that the Tampines North Cub Scout Camp's dates have been changed to 29 May 08 to 30 May 08, so don't worry, it won't clash with your 'O' level MT papers. So, if anyone of you can't make it for the June Training Camp, please tell me, Otter or Azhari by 30 May 08 (Wednesday) because Raging Bat needs to know who is coming for the June Training Camp ASAP.

Coming up these few months, there will be 4 activities for you guys to take note of.

1. Tampines North Cub Scout Camp (29 May 08 to 30 May 08)

I have sent out the camp programme to everyone via email, so please take a look at it. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me. We will be involved only on the first day and the campfire (second day) of the camp, and we have to transfer the gong and some lashing ropes to Tampines North Pri Sch (details will be confirm on a later date). If you cannot make it for both days, please inform Azhari or Staunch Otter in advance, and those ventures still currently studying in Siglap Sec Sch, please take the consent form.

2. Manjusri Campfire (28 June 08)

If you are unable to make it due to whatever reasons, please inform Azhari or Staunch Otter in advance, and those ventures still currently studying in Siglap Sec Sch, please take the consent form.

3. VLC, venture leadership course@Sarimbun (12 July 08 to 13 July 08, Sat & Sun)

For Crew 08: If you want to go, please inform Azhari once you see this because application is on a first come first serve basis (which means limited places only!!!). Don't miss this chance because its only the 2nd last one and last VLC this year. If you miss it, you have to wait till next year. My apologies for the bad timing but its always around this period!

For Crew 07: Service venture's application is open!!! Please inform Azhari if you are unable to make it for the camp, we will be helping out in games.

Next saturday, we will be bringing the cub scouts on a hike in Bukit Timah.
Here the details:

Date: 5 April 2008
Venue: Meet at Tampines Interchange (Small Macdonald)
Time: 7.15am (Have to force everyone to eat breakfast) - Azhari will come at 8am
Attire: Half-u (Venture pants & the grey colour venture tee)
Things to bring: Suffcient water (at least 500ml) & first aid kit for first aiders

Hoi guys,

remember to select 5 station games (I like 1 of the D-camp games where they have to pour water into a cup)...remember the games must be for CCA leadership training!

1) The pupils are leaders of their CCAs & the age group range from 10 yrs old to 12 yrs old.

2) Some of them maybe last year's leaders so I hope not to repeat ALL the games.

3) Look at the pics of last year's games. You may ask Panda or Wombat.

If I can recall,

a) we played minesweeper (that's fun),

b) river crossing with chairs,

c) a pail of water endurance game,

d) memory game (Kim's game),

e) get the pail out of the poison river using a given rope.

My apologies for not knowing the names!!!

So meet me at my school at 830am sharp at the front gate in full u or else no enrey & no FOOD! We'll be doing the stations in the canteen this year. I try to get the number of pupils...should be around 25 to 30 pupils. We should have 1 hour plus to finish 5 stations so we can go home by 1pm. Then I need to be off to my Chingay paprade!!!

Oh yah, I need a representative for this Saturday's District Venture meeting at Greenview. Any senior crew want to go? I need at least 1 or maybe 2 lah. If Heron can't go, then I really need the crew representative. Kookabura & Grumbling Squirrel will host the meeting.
